Help! I Have a Sunburn!
A sunburn can be very painful depending on the severity of the burn and how light or dark your skin color is. You can experience blistering of the area, redness, and tenderness. Here are a few recommendations to help relieve the discomfort of sensitive, painful, and ultimately dry or flaky skin from our Idaho-based team.
Aspirin at the First Sign
The first recommendation from our providers is to take 325 mg of aspirin at the first sign of a sunburn. The sooner you take it, the more relief you will get! Aspirin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory that acts directly on the chemicals that play a role in sunburn pain. It works better than acetaminophen for sunburns. Aspirin will also help the burn to release heat because of the increased blood flow. You may also find that applying cold packs on the area, as well as aloe vera gel, reduces the severity of the symptoms.
There are two Epionce™ products that we all have on hand, and in the fridge, for the rare and unexpected sunburn: Balancing Toner and Enriched Firming Mask. These two products provide just the support your skin needs to heal!
The Balancing Toner can help soothe your skin by providing a concentrated blend of botanical extracts that give a surge of moisture. The Balancing Toner has cucumber extract that helps soothe your sunburned skin, and menthol to reduce the burn.
The Enriched Firming Mask also helps hydrate skin and is known to help fight redness. It also features botanical ingredients and is very moisturizing and soothing to damaged skin.
I recommend that you use the Balancing Toner first to balance the PH and then apply the Enriched Firming Mask over the top. Feel free to repeat this as often as needed. To help the skin repair after you are in the peeling stage, I recommend Epionce™ Renewal Calming Cream. This product will help relieve minor skin irritation and itching.
Prevention is Key
The best way to prevent a sunburn is to use wide-brim cloth hats, wear UV protective clothing, and use sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher—and make sure to reapply it every 80 minutes. Reapplication is the most often missed step, so set a timer if you have to!
