How to Prepare for a Non-Ablative Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing Session

We recommend that you get ready for your non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing treatment by having a few Epionce products on hand to provide post-treatment care. For cleansing, use either Gentle Foaming Cleanser or Milky Lotion Cleanser. For moisturizing, use either Medical Barrier Cream or Renewal Calming Cream. For sun protection, use Ultra Shield Lotion SPF 50.

The Non-Ablative Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment

What to Expect Prior to Treatment

We first remove any make-up or skincare from your skin in order to prepare it for the non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing session. We apply a numbing cream to help with discomfort, and protective eyewear will be provided.

This treatment will not be applied to skin suffering from active dermatitis, eczema, or psoriasis.

What to Expect During Treatment

The energy from a non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing treatment is delivered in pulses by a 1540 nm laser. Each pulse lasts for about a second. Test pulses will be performed to find a setting that is comfortable for you. Your skin may feel warm or hot, and each pulse may feel like the snap of a rubber band.

Several passes are required. This heats the skin, so we use a topical numbing cream and a cooling roller to lessen any discomfort. This treatment can be combined with a chemical peel to treat surface roughness and large pores, as well as radiofrequency and LED energy for tissue tightening and increase of elasticity.

Non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing treatments typically take about an hour.

What to Expect After Treatment

Application of cool gel ice packs, Epionce Priming Oil, and Epionce Medical Barrier Cream right after a non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing treatment can help alleviate post-session itchiness, burning, and stinging that may occur.

Mild swelling is expected just after treatment and generally resolves within 24 to 48 hours—but may rarely last up to three to five days.

You may experience significant redness, broken capillaries, and bronzing in the treatment area for approximately one to three days after non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing. This may persist in a mild form for 10 to 14 days and is more common in treatment areas other than the face.

Non-Ablative Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing At-Home Care

We recommend that you cleanse the treated area about every 12 hours with a gentle cleanser—such as Epionce Milky Lotion Cleanser or Epionce Gentle Foaming Cleanser—for the first two to four days. After each cleansing session, and whenever the affected skin begins to feel dry, apply Epionce Renewal Calming Cream followed by two applications of Epionce Ultra Shield Lotion SPF 50, with the second application following 30 minutes after the first one. You should be able to continue your normal skincare program after two to four days, making sure to continue to apply sunscreen daily all year long.

Here is What our Patients Think

All of the interaction with the staff, technicians and doctors have been professional and friendly. The staff is efficient, the wait times are minimal, and the care is exceptional. I highly recommend CTDerm.

Wade W. (Patient since 2019)

I have known from a distance that Dr. Thornfeldt and his staff were very good. But in just one visit, I realize that I had underestimated how good they are. Our son and daughter's skin issues, as well as my own, were not noticed by our dermatologist where we live. It was fully worth the trip from Florida.

Robert H. (patient since 2016)

My experience with Dr. Thornfeldt and his staff has been nothing but pleasurable. The staff are friendly and helpful going the extra mile to meet the patients needs. Dr. Thornfeldt is dedicated to the care of his patients, actively listening and responding as he seeks to see the bigger picture.

Dezra. R (patient since 2019)

The staff at CT Derm is very friendly and helpful. I found the visit very comfortable. Dr. Thornfeldt is extremely knowledgeable, thorough, and understanding. I am a former patient of his from when he had an office in Nampa, but due to improved skin issues and major life changes, -- a divorce and move, I didn't follow him to his Fruitland office. After over 12 years, and new skin problems, I knew it was time make the drive. I trust him completely and appreciate his experience and expertise.

Ellen S. (patient since 2018)
