Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment
Address Photodamage, Redness, and Texture Irregularities in Fruitland, Idaho
Intense pulsed light, or IPL, is a skin rejuvenation treatment that involves using high-intensity pulses of broad-spectrum light to treat various skin diseases and conditions. This differs from a laser, which uses a narrow beam of a single wavelength to target specific cells. With IPL treatments, the Fruitland, Idaho-based team at The MedSpa by CT Derm can address numerous signs of aging and sun damage.
IPL treatments work by sending light below the surface of the skin, where pigment cells or red blood cells capture the energy and generate heat. The heat generated damages visible vessels, growths, and other unwanted skin irregularities. Treatments promote healing processes that improve the look and feel of the skin in general.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for IPL Treatments?
IPL treatments work well for adults who want to reduce the appearance of dark spots, flushing and other facial redness issues, and sun-damaged skin. Treatments can also improve the appearance of mild acne scars, reduce dark circles around the eyes, and even out skin texture irregularities.
Because IPL treatments use a broad spectrum of visible light, they can be applied as a spot treatment to specific abnormalities or a larger area to rejuvenate the skin. This means that they work best for patients with lighter skin. Darker skin tones will more readily absorb the broadly applied light energy, leading to less-effective results and more possible complications.
Joie Torvend, The MedSpa at CT Derm esthetician, will lead a consultation, during which she will examine your skin and consider the conditions to be addressed in order to determine whether an IPL treatment is the best option for you.
What Happens Before an IPL Treatment?
Prior to your IPL treatment, start an Epionce skincare regimen to maximize your visible results. Your skincare after the treatment will be designed by Joie Torvend to achieve the fastest healing.
At your IPL treatment, your skin will be prepared and cleansed to remove any makeup or skincare products. Protective eyewear will be provided. Cooling gel and a handheld fan will be applied to the area being treated to improve your comfort.
What Is an IPL Treatment Like at The MedSpa by CT Derm?
The energy from an IPL treatment is delivered in pulses that last for about one second each. Before starting the full treatment, test pulses will be performed to find a setting that is comfortable for you. You may feel warmth or heat, and each individual pulse may feel like the snap of a rubber band. Any discomfort usually goes away within seconds after each pulse.
Depending on the size of the area being treated, the treatment session typically takes about 45 minutes from start to finish. Multiple treatments are most effective.
What Happens After an IPL Treatment?
IPL treatments are highly effective and involve little or no downtime, which means you can resume your normal activities right away. The cooling gel is removed after the session, and ice packs are applied if needed to further soothe the skin. Epionce™ Recovery Kit will be applied to the treated areas. We ask that you avoid direct sun exposure for the first 24 hours.
You should be able to continue your normal Epionce skincare program designed by Joie Torvend after two to four days. It is important to apply sunscreen, applying two layers daily, year round.
If you do experience any redness after your treatment, the coloration should fade within the first day. If you had dark spots treated, they may look darker and mottled at first, but will begin to fade after the third day. Spots typically fully resolve within a week.
