LED Red Light Therapy
Reduce Redness, Improve Scars, and More in Fruitland, Idaho
LED red light therapy at Fruitland's The MedSpa by CT Derm is intended primarily for reducing facial redness, whether used on its own or to activate a photosensitive compound applied as part of photodynamic therapy. Because it involves a single colored wavelength, treatments can be very specific and focused.
Besides LED red light therapy, we offer LED therapy of other wavelengths to address signs of skin aging, treat acne, and accelerate scar healing to make them less visible.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for LED Red Light Therapy?
Adults who are unhappy with flushing and other causes of frequent or persistent facial redness make ideal patients for LED red light therapy. While there are many causes of redness, it is often associated with rosacea, a chronic medical skin condition.
LED red light therapy is not a cure for persistent redness, but the powerful light emitted by special bulbs can help to manage the symptoms while reducing the visible redness and flushing.
To determine whether you are an ideal candidate for LED red light therapy—or other, similar therapies—Joie Torvend, the esthetician at The MedSpa by CT Derm, will ask you questions, examine your skin, and go over your cosmetic goals with you during a personalized consultation.
How to Prepare for an LED Red Light Therapy Session
Our team recommends that you start by thinking ahead to the days after your LED red light therapy session. Prepare in advance by choosing an Epionce™ skin care regimen, including an Epionce™ sunscreen to be applied regularly for two to four weeks before LED red light treatment.
It is also important to plan ahead in regard to travel. Protecting your skin from ultraviolet radiation and heat exposure after your treatment will be paramount, so you may need to arrange for someone to drive you, while you can sit in the back seat and keep any treated area covered.
What Happens Before LED Red Light Therapy?
Your skin will be prepped and cleansed so that make-up or skincare products will not interfere with your LED red light treatment. In some cases, you will be given a microdermabrasion treatment to remove dead cells and debris to improve LED red light penetration. You will also be provided eye protection.
What Happens During LED Red Light Therapy?
The light itself is very intense, so you will likely feel warmth or heat when it is activated. For standalone treatments, the LED red light will be all that is applied to your skin. If the LED red light therapy is being used to activate a photosensitive compound, that product will be applied and then left to incubate for a set amount of time before the light is switched on to activate it.
What Happens After LED Red Light Therapy?
The skin area given LED red light treatment typically feels and looks like it has been sunburned: red, sensitive, and even slightly swollen. Cooling strategies should be employed just after the session as necessary to improve comfort and decrease reaction. The side effects will resolve within one to two days, but will last up to 10 days after photodynamic therapy. You should see the unwanted redness gradually fade after this, as natural skin rejuvenation visually occurs.
