Microneedling and Combinations with Collagen Induction
Stimulate Collagen and Natural Healing for Improved Skin in Fruitland, Idaho
At The MedSpa by CT Derm, we regularly see women and men who want to look younger and feel amazing. With medical-grade microneedling at our Fruitland, Idaho, office, we can trigger the body's natural collagen and elastin production. This treatment is a safe and highly successful procedure to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, fade scars and stretch marks, and reduce sun damage while improving skin tone and texture.
Applying platelet-rich plasma, known as Collagen Induction, after microneedling provides multiple growth factors that aid in slowing down the aging process. Collagen Induction is concentrated healing parts of cells responsible for blood clotting and wound healing, drawn from a patient's own blood, then spun down to obtain the most active portion. Dr. Carl Thornfeldt and our esthetician, Joie Torvend, have also designed a combination to enhance the rejuvenating benefit of microneedling. This includes applying Epionce™ Refresh Superficial Chemical Peel after a session.

Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Microneedling and Combinations?
Many of the signs of aging people want to address are associated with age-related loss of collagen, which is an important protein found abundantly in youthful skin. As collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid levels drop after age 25, the thin and weakening skin begins to show lines and is more prone to not healing damage properly.
Microneedling uses incredibly fine needles to puncture the skin to activate repair and healing. Fibroblasts in the deeper layers create new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid once activated. Epidermal cells thicken and are fortified. This all works together to reduce fine lines, deep wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, milia (tiny white bumps), and sun spots. Microneedling can also help pores to appear smaller and less noticeable, as well as reduce oiliness and acne breakouts while smoothing skin and evening out pigmentation.
Collagen Induction enhances the benefits of microneedling.
How to Prepare for Microneedling
We recommend that you get ready for your microneedling treatment with or without Collagen Induction by having an Epionce™ skincare regimen for two to four weeks before. If you need help with this, Joie Torvend, our esthetician, provides complimentary consultations. Most importantly, after microneedling therapy sessions, the Epionce™ Essential Recovery Kit will be used to maximize your results. Once healed, use daily Epionce™ Sunscreen to protect against ultraviolet radiation and pollution exposure.
What Happens Before a Microneedling Session?
Your skin will be prepared and cleansed to remove any make-up or skincare products. A topical anesthetic will be applied, and then you will wait 20 to 40 minutes for it to work. Rarely, injections to numb the area for deeper localized treatments may be administered by one of our medical providers. The topical anesthetic will be removed right before the treatment.

What Happens During a Microneedling Session?
The treatment needles penetrate your skin to a precise depth, depending upon what you want treated. You may experience a sensation of warmth and feel a bit of discomfort in the area being treated. The discomfort will resolve as the esthetician moves from one area to another.
If opting for Collagen Induction in addition to microneedling, your blood will be drawn by one of our medical assistants. We will then filter out the red and white blood cells, leaving only the liquid plasma and platelets. During the microneedling session, the platelets are applied directly to the skin, increasing the cell turnover and rejuvenation while speeding up the recovery process.
What Happens After a Microneedling Session?
Your skin may feel tight and warm like a sunburn. Cooling measures with a handheld fan and/or ice water applied with gauze will decrease any discomfort right after the microneedling treatment. A layer of the Epionce™ Priming Oil and Enriched Firming Mask will be applied to the treated area before you leave the MedSpa. We ask that you avoid direct sunlight for the first 48 hours, the application of make-up for 18 hours, and smoking for 24 hours.
It is common to need around two days of downtime after shallow-depth microneedling, but you may need four days with a deeper treatment. Your skin may be red and feel warm for a few hours. You may also have some bruising after the treatment. The discoloration should not feel tender to the touch, but may last up to five to seven days if the Epionce™ Refresh Chemical Peel is needed. You may experience mild flaking or peeling for three to seven days after your microneedling treatment.
The Epionce™ Essential Recovery Kit provides all the products needed for post-microneedling recovery. This healing kit and directions for use will be provided by our esthetician, Joie Torvend. We recommend keeping Epionce™ Firming Mask in your refrigerator for the first three days to increase its cooling effect.
